August Fine Arts Student of the Month
The SJO Fine Arts Student of the Month for August is Abby Schlueter.
Schlueter is a senior and participates in band. She was nominated by Music Director Charles Hess.
“Abby was a great help to myself and the rest of the band during camp” Hess said. “She set up and ran all of the band “olympic games during camp.” Hess went on to say that he is amazed by the high level of leadership Schlueter exhibits.
“She is a gifted young lady and has the respect of her peers and her director.”
Schlueter said she loves band class.
“Everyone knows everyone really well and we are like our own family,” she said. “I love seeing everyone in the morning.”
Schlueter hopes to attend Yale, Columbia or UCLA to major in film and theater management.
Schlueter said she enjoys the support she has experienced in the fine arts community.
“Everyone in the fine arts community is very supportive and no one is competing with anyone else,” she said.
Schlueter said the most difficult part of participating in fine arts is that sometimes it is overshadowed by athletics.
‘It’s tough not getting as much support as you would like,” she said.
Schlueter said she was happy to be recognized as student of the month.
“I am so appreciative that all my love for the arts is recognized and I’m so happy to get to work with Mr. Hess this year in band.”
