August Student-Athlete of the Month
Emily Bigger was named the St. Joseph-Ogden High School Student-Athlete of the Month for August.
Bigger, a junior who plays volleyball, was nominated by her coach Abby McDonald and selected by a committee that included Athletic Director Justin Franzen and two head coaches who are out of season.
McDonald said Bigger “is very respectful to coaches, teammates and officials. She is respected by coaches, officials and fans by the way she carries herself on and off the court.”
McDonald went on to say “Emily is very coachable and is always willing to ask questions. She is a hard worker and always positive with her teammates and coaching staff.”
McDonald said Bigger worked hard during the offseason to improve her defensive skills.
“She is a team player that wants what is best for her team to be successful.”
For her part, Bigger, who plans to attend college but is undecided where, said she was happy her coach nominated her.
“It makes me happy along with being thankful because I know that my coach has noted my hard work during practices and games,” she said.
Bigger said the most challenging part of being a student-athlete at SJO is managing your time with homework, games, and practices all demanding attention. She said the most rewarding thing about being a student-athlete was the atmosphere at each game.
“The support from the parents and community is unreal,” she said. “Along with the parents and community the support from the Maroon Platoon each home game is amazing. It truly makes a differencing having so much support from other students.”
