Clean drug sweep at St. Joseph-Ogden High School
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Department conducted a routine search of St. Joseph-Ogden High School today.
School Resource Officer Alicia Maxey said canines were walked past all the lockers in the school by their handlers.
The hallways and locker rooms were searched.
“We did not have any positive alerts today,” Maxey said.
The dogs are looking for illegal drugs such as marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs such as opioids.
Maxey said the students are kept in their classrooms during the search and are not told prior to the sweep.
“Nobody except the administration team of Mr. Brooks, Mr. Page and Mr. Franzen know when the search will take place,” Maxey said. “From the Sheriff’s Office the canine officers and I know as does the lieutenant who approves the sweep.”
Maxey said if a dog did alert to a locker the student whose locker was alerted on would be brought to the office.
The locker would then be searched by Maxey and school personnel.
