Heritage (11-2) extended its volleyball winning streak to five matches with back-to-back two-set sweeps to start the week.
On Monday, the Hawks dispatched visiting Chrisman, 25-12, 25-17.
Ranked 10th in The News-Gazette area, the Hawks were led by Aliya Holloman’s 10 kills. Malani Smithenry added 15 digs and Olivia Sorensen had 21 assists.
On Tuesday, Heritage handled DeLand-Weldon 25-12, 25-22.
Sorensen landed five aces. Breauna Buck had five kills and Bri Struck added four kills.
Also on Tuesday, Oakwood (12-6) won its fourth match in a row, topping Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 25-19, 20-25, 25-14.
Golf
Oakwood won a three-school meet on Monday at Danville’s Harrison Park. The Comets’ team score of 179 was better than Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin (189) and Westville (206).
Logan Hoshauer was the team medalist, carding a 39 to finish in a tie for second place overall.
Teammates Cade Lawhorn and Reed Sperry tied for fifth, with 47s.
Also on Monday, Villa Grove/Heritage handled Salt Fork, 176-215, at Tri-City Country Club thanks to having the low four scorers.
Tristan Harrison was the medalist with a 41. Teammate Jackson Vandeventer was the runner-up with a 42.
Zach Buesing had a 44 and Sam Reno had a 49.
On Tuesday, Arcola beat VG/H 171-194 in a dual meet at Arcola’s Kaskaskia Country Club.
Buesing’s 44 led VG/H.
On Wednesday, VG/H topped Oblong, 173-180.
Harrison shared medalist honors with a 42 and Buesing posted a 43 at Oak Glen Golf Course in Robinson.
Soccer
Dawson Rogers had two goals and two assists as Oakwood/Salt Fork (4-8) defeated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 5-2 in Fithian on Tuesday.
Caleb Lashuay scored twice and Joe Lashuay had two assists.
Sam Howie scored the final O/SF goal unassisted.
Goalkeeper Chris Winkler had two saves.
Cross-country
The Oakwood/Salt Fork girls finished third in the 10-team North Vermilion (Ind.) Invitational on Tuesday.
Grace Davis was seventh individually in the 50-runner field. Her 3-mile time was 24 minutes, 21 seconds.
The team had five top 20 finishers. The others were Carlee Richardson (12th), Carlie Thompson (14th), Aubrey Webb (18th) and Katie Fritz (19th).
In the boys’ race, O/SF did not have enough runners to field a full team, but had two of the top four racers in the field of 59.
Andy Hohn was third in 18:02. Teammate Cameron Helka was fourth in 18:12.
In Saturday’s Peoria Notre Dame Invitational at Detweiller Park, St. Joseph-Ogden’s girls’ teams fared well.
In the varsity race, SJ-O was 31st in an 64-team field.
Team leaders were Cassidy Bagby (84th), Hannah Rajlich (133rd) and Ally Monk (155th).
Overall, there were 437 finishers.
In the freshmen-sophomore division, the SJ-O girls placed 11th in a field of 38 teams.
The Spartans’ top five runners packed together within 35 seconds of one another.
Hanna Eastin was 49th in 20:21.8. She was followed by Hope Rajlich (53rd), Kailyn Ingram (59th), Ashlyn Lannert (79th) and Olivia Klotz (81st) in a race with 264 competitors.
In the freshmen-sophomore boys’ race, SJ-O was 29th in a 54-team field.
Team leaders were Brandon Mattsey (41st) and Charlie Mabry (174th) in a field of 377 runners.
In the boys’ varsity race, the Spartans’ pacesetters were Isiah McCune (16:09.2) and Eric Poe (17:14.5).
