Edwards named SJO Fine Arts Student of the Month

Nadirah Edwards loves to be creative.

Whether its marching band, which she hopes to participate in again next year, or art class, the SJO sophomore loves expressing herself.

“My favorite class would be both marching and concert band and art,” Edwards said. “Although I’m not in marching band this year it was a lot of fun last year and I hope to do it again next year.”

Edwards said her favorite part of art class is drawing.

“And the teacher is one of my favorites,“ she said.

Edwards was named the SJO Fine Arts Student of the Month.

Edwards has had high A’s in all of her Art classes and currently has an A+, said teacher Jake Beccue said.

Beccue said Edwards is a fearless artist.

“She isn’t afraid to try any medium,” he said.

Beccue complimented Edwards’ disposition saying she is polite and respectful day in and day out. He also complimented her work ethic saying, “Nadirah works hard inside and outside of the classroom. She has a great approach to all her projects.”

People can view Edwards’ art any time they see an Art Club T-shirt.  Her drawing was selected to be on the shirts after a club vote.

“She is the youngest to ever be selected,” Beccue said.

After high school, Edwards plans on attending college and majoring in illustration or game design.
Edwards said her SJO classes are helping her prepare for college.

“I can use this for my portfolio for college,” she said.

Edwards said she was honored to be selected as the Fine Arts Student of the Month.

“I am happy with myself and now have more confidence in my skills,” she said. “I will, of course, continue to draw normally, however. I hope to improve my artistic skills more as the year progresses and this does help me stay motivated.”
