Bagby and McClune named SJO Athletes of the Month
Cassidy Bagby
Senior Cassidy Bagby is the St. Joseph-Ogden female Athlete of the Month for September.
Cross Country Coach Jason Retz nominated Bagby for the honor because she is a team leader “who is always helping others.”
Bagby has logged more miles than anyone else on the team, Retz said.
“She ran as the third fastest girl in school history and had a fifth-place finish at the Spartan Classic,” Retz said.
Bagby, who wants to attend a college with a cross country or track program , plans on majoring in communications and broadcasting.
She said the most difficult thing about being a student-athlete at SJO is balancing athletics with academics but her favorite class, study hall with her friends, help her do that.
Bagby said she was honored her coach had nominated her for the honor.
“It makes me feel like all my hard work has been noticed,” she said.
Isiah McClune
Senior Isiah McClune is the leader on the men’s cross country team, said Coach Jason Retz.
McClune placed 11th at the Spartan Classic, making him the 17th fastest man in school history.
McClune said he was proud to be nominated by Retz to be St. Joseph-Ogden’s male athlete of the month for September.
“It makes me very proud to know I am doing everything right and leading our team to success and in the right direction.”
McClune, whose favorite class is accounting, said he hopes to attend college and major in accounting and eventually become a financial advisor. He also hopes to run cross country and track and field in college.
McClune said the best thing about being an athlete at SJO is the support.
“The uplifting and positive support from the students every day,” he said.
McClune said balancing academics with athletics can be challenging because the teachers have high expectations.
