Poetry on Tap at the Wheelhouse Thursday night

The Wheelhouse, located at 109 N Main St. in St. Joseph, will present their first Poetry on Tap event from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 18.

Poets Rachel Lauren Storm and Jim O’Brien will read their poetry, then O’Brien will set up his typewriter, an Olivetti Underwood, to write poems on the spot for patrons.

Storm, a Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois, has been an influential member of the Champaign-Urbana community through her work with the Women’s Resource Center and the City of Urbana as the Public Arts Director. She also worked on a project in Cotacachi, Ecuador, helping to build a sustainable women’s shelter.

Storm’s traveling photography exhibit, Carichina Women, has been exhibited in numerous galleries, NGOs, and campuses across the Midwest.

Jim O’Brien, who publishes under the pen name James Escher, is a St. Joseph resident.

O’Brien helped to create the CU Poetry Group, which was a spin-off of The Red Herring Fiction Group. He also helps to run the Reading Room at the Accord, while continuing to produce his own poetry, which has been published in several journals including Pilcrow & Dagger, The Tishman Review and Pegasus, among others.

The event is free and open to the public.
