St. Joseph-Ogden, Villa Grove and Oakwood get IHSA play-off assignments
The St. Joseph-Ogden football team will be facing a familiar foe in the first round of the 3A IHSA playoffs—Monticello.
The IHSA released the pairings on Saturday night and the Spartans (5-4) will be making the 35-minute trek to face the Sages on their home field. Monticello comes into the contest 9-0 after defeating the Spartans 50-7 on Friday during Illini Prairie Conference play.
The contest may be an uphill battle for the Spartans as the Sage’s offense averages 47.3 points per game. The Sages defense is top-notch as well, allowing only 62 points during the regular season.
Villa Grove-Heritage will be making the trip to Tuscola for the first round of the IHSA 2A playoffs. Tuscola, a member of the Central Illinois Conference, comes into the game with a record of 8-1. The Warriors faced the Blue Devils, 5-4, during the first week of the regular season when Tuscola traveled to Villa Grove and decimated VGH, 57-0.
Oakwood will be traveling more than an hour and 45 minutes to take on Pana in the first round of the IHSA 2A playoffs. Oakwood, who won the Vermillion Valley Conference with a conference record of 4-1 and an overall record of 5-4, will be taking on a strong competitor in the South Central Conference’s Pana. The Panthers finished the season at 8-1.
