Girls’ basketball teams from St. Joseph-Ogden, Oakwood and Villa Grove/Heritage all opened their seasons with victories earlier this week.
The SJ-O and VG/H squads followed up with a second-game win as well.
St. Joseph-Ogden
The Spartans have a winning margin of 41 points after consecutive triumphs in the Lady Falcon/Bunnie Tip-Off at Gibson City.
SJ-O (2-0) overpowered Salt Fork 54-28 on Monday and then blitzed Iroquois West 63-7 on Tuesday.
The Spartans had different scoring leaders in each of their first two games.
Peyton Crowe led the way against Salt Fork with 14 points. Bree Trimble added 13 points.
Teammates Ella Armstrong and Hannah Dukeman each scored seven points.
Trimble’s 19 led the way against Iroquois West in a game SJ-O led 50-0 in the third quarter.
Dukeman hit 13 points and Crowe chipped in with nine.
The Spartans return to action tonight against the host Falcons (2-0) and, with a win, will advance into Friday’s championship game.
Oakwood
The Comets (1-0) built a 23-10 lead after one quarter on Tuesday and cruised to victory, 57-26, in their home-opener against Judah Christian.
Katelyn Young netted a game-high 25 points. Paiton Frerichs contributed 14 points.
Teammates adding eight points apiece were Aaliyah Denius and Kylie Neuman.
Oakwood plays Chrisman at home on Friday in first-round action of the Oakwood Comet Classic.
Villa Grove/Heritage
Aliya Holloman opened the season with two straight 20-point performances, leading the Blue Devils to a 2-0 start.
In Monday’s 53-43 triumph over Paxton-Buckley-Loda, Holloman tossed in 23 points. The next night, she followed up with 24 points in a 58-39 verdict over Fisher in the Lady Falcon/Bunnie Tip-Off at Fisher.
Kyleigh Block scored a game-high 26 points against Fisher, raising her two-game tally to 38 points.
The Holloman/Block duo combined for all but eight of their team’s points against the Bunnies.
VG/H led Fisher (0-2), 24-10, after one quarter.
The Blue Devils showed their comeback abilities against PBL. After trailing 21-11 following one quarter, they pulled within 30-28 at halftime, but allowed just 13 second-half points to secure the win.
VG/H returns to action tonight against Unity (2-0), needing a win to move into Friday’s championship contest.
