It’s time for tea.
Geschenk Coffee and Tea Haus will host a Winter Wonderland Tea at the St. Joseph United Methodist church on January 19 from 1 to 3 p.m.
After a spring tea in 2018, Geschenk’s owner Kathy Lyons has plans to host more tea events in 2019.
Hosting the tea at the Methodist church will allow for more people to participate.
“We served our last tea in our shop, and while that was successful we wanted the opportunity to serve more people in an efficient manner,” Lyons said.
“We think it will be a great way to fellowship with good food and tea and have an opportunity to meet some new folks in the community as well.”
The winter tea will begin by serving traditional scones followed by tea sandwiches with Geschenk’s homemade bread. The event will be rounded out with sweet treats.
Each course will be served with teas that will compliment the flavors of dish.
Lyons said she loves to share her love of tea and knowledge of tea.
“We will also be sharing some information about tea with a hope that people learn something new about this delightful drink.” Lyons said.
- Lyons has a few tips for tea drinkers along the way:
Don’t brew tea too long, it will get bitter. - Red tea usually refers to a rooibos tea which is an herbal tea and is usually caffeine free.
- You can reduce the caffeine in tea by brewing for a moment, discarding the water, and then brewing again.
There is a $20/person charge for the tea. Reservations are needed and can be made via phone (with credit card) at 217-469-6034, visiting Geschenk Coffee and Tea Haus at 228 E Lincoln, or contacting the shop via facebook.
