Against an opponent who had more than doubled the score on Oakwood in a previous boys’ basketball game, the Comets had a buzzer-beating shot Friday night to force overtime, but fell short to Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
PBL (20-9) survived, 58-55, in a Class 2A regional championship game on the Comets’ court.
Trevan Garrett scored a game-high 17 points for Oakwood, which spurted into a 10-2 lead to start the game. Garrett nailed a season-high three three-pointers.
Bryce Jones added 12 points for the Comets.
In a December meeting between the schools, PBL prevailed, 57-28.
Oakwood’s seniors are Garrett, Jones, Andy Hohn, Zane Priest and Noah Ruch.
