Campbell wins 800-meter race, Heritage baseball defeats Martinsville

Samantha Campbell won the 800 meters on Friday in the girls’ Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Invitational.
Her time was 2 minutes, 31.89 seconds.
The other top placer for Villa Grove/Heritage was Meike Herbrandt, who was second in the 400 meters (1:05.40).
Tuscola won team honors with 98 points. VG/Heritage was seventh in the 15-team event with 32 points.
Boys’ track and field
Chase Burwell, from Villa Grove/Heritage, finished third in the shot put on Friday in the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Invitational.
His top toss was 44 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
Tuscola was the team champion with 86 points. VG/Heritage was 13th with 12 points.
Baseball
Evan Wilson went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs on Friday as Villa Grove/Heritage shutout Martinsville 10-0 in Martinsville.
Carson Howard pitched a complete-game three-hitter. Howard struck out three and walked one.
Howard and Austin Grimm each totaled two hits.
VG/Heritage (8-5) returns to action today at Cumberland.
Softball
The Hawks (3-7) lost a 4-2 decision on Friday at Martinsville.
Heritage returns to action today at Cumberland.
