Trevan Garrett’s basketball season continued on Sunday.

The Oakwood High School senior was one of the selections for the east central Illinois team in the ninth -annual boys’ Battle of the Border all-star contest.

Garrett was in the starting lineup for the victorious Illinois team, which outscored its Indiana counterparts, 71-64.

He scored three points — hitting his only three-point attempt — and finished third on the Illinois team in rebounding, with seven.

“I liked playing with people I’d played against and wearing the high school jersey one more time,” Garrett said.

He actually has two more times to represent the Comets on the court.

The second and final game in the Battle of the Border series will be played on Saturday at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin High School.

The game will start at approximately 6:30 p.m., following a 5 p.m. girls’ game.

The 6-foot-3 guard was also chosen to play in The News-Gazette All-Star Classic, which will be held on Sunday at Parkland College.

“We had one practice and that was good,” Garrett said. “It let us know what everyone could do and their styles.”

Since the high school season ended, Garrett has been playing once a week.

He was satisfied with his Sunday performance.

“It was decent overall,” he said.

His competitive career will likely conclude next weekend.

He plans to enroll at a trade school in Georgia for linemen which doesn’t offer basketball.
