Haley picks up 300th career win, Spartan softball remains unbeaten, Girls’ track hits stride at Rantoul

St. Joseph-Ogden baseball coach Josh Haley picked up his 300th career win on Tuesday as the Spartans overpowered visiting Prairie Central by the 10-run rule, 13-3.

SJ-O’s Nick Boggs had a single, a double and a home run, driving in seven runs in the milestone victory.

Crayton Burnett also had three hits and knocked in five runs.

Adam Rose swatted double for both of his hits.

Joseph  Acton pitched the first 4 1/3 innings and registered the victory. He struck out four and walked no one.

Zach Martinie pitched the last 1 2/3 innings and didn’t allow a hit.

On Monday, Rose pitched a five-inning two-hitter at home as the Spartans overpowered Rantoul 11-1 in an Illini Prairie Conference game.

Rose walked three and struck out six.

At the plate, Rose and Burnett each powered two hits. Burnett drove in four runs.

Drew Coursey, who walked twice, scored three runs.

SJ-O (10-4-2) returns to action today at Bloomington Central Catholic. In its last six games, SJ-O is 4-0.

Girls’ track and field

St. Joseph-Ogden

Maclayne Taylor swept the sprint races for St. Joseph-Ogden on Monday at Rantoul in a three-school meet that also included Charleston.

Taylor was timed in 12.87 seconds in the 100 meters. She ran the 200 meters in 26.60.

Ashlyn Lannert was victorious in the 800 meters (2:39.65) and teammate Jillian Plotner was triumphant in the 1,600 meters (5:26.33).

Rylee Sjuts captured the 100 hurdles in 18.92 seconds.

The other SJ-O individual winner was Payton Vallee in the discus (112 feet, 6 inches).

The Spartans had the runner-up in six individual events, including two by Atleigh Hamilton.

She was second in the 200 meters (27.02 seconds) and the long jump (16-2).

Ally Monk ran second in the 800 meters (2:42.93), Hannah Rajlich was second in the 1,600 meters (5:31.65), Angie Chahine was second in the 100 hurdles (19.68) and Abby Behrens was the runner-up in the high jump (4-10).

SJ-O will return to action on Friday at the Unity Invitational.

Softball

Bailey Dowling and Hannah Dukeman powered home runs on Monday as unbeaten St. Joseph-Ogden made Rantoul its 10th consecutive victim, 9-2 in an Illini Prairie Conference game in St. Joseph.

Dowling and Dukeman each swatted three hits and had three RBI.

Kennedy Hudson had two hits and two RBI.

Ashtyn Cromwell pitched 3 2/3 innings and earned the win. Reliever Zoey Witruk struck out seven in 3 1/3 innings.

On Wednesday the Spartans outscored Bishop McNamara in Kankakee, 13-11.

Dowling had three hits, including a home run, and knocked in four runs.

Dukeman and Kaylee Ward each had two hits.

Witruk pitched a complete game and struck out seven.

The game was the seventh in a row where SJ-O has hit at least one home run. The Spartans needed a seven-run fifth inning to rally for the win.

SJ-O (11-0) returns to action today at Bloomington Central Catholic.
