Heritage baseball tops Oblong and Cerro Gordo-Bement

Villa Grove/Heritage, which trailed 2-0 after one inning on Monday at Oblong, took command with an eight-run fifth-inning en route to a 9-4 baseball triumph.
The Hawks did not yield an earned run.
Evan Wilson worked the first four innings and registered the pitching victory. He struck out three, walked no one and allowed three hits.
VG/Heritage managed just four singles, but took advantage of 11 walks and three hit by pitches to rally for the conference win.
Nick Coffin drove in two runs and Kane Davison scored two runs.
Mason Wyant picked up his fourth win of the season on Wednesday as the Blue Devils hammered visiting Cerro Gordo/Bement, 12-3.
Wyant pitched six innings and struck out eight. He walked two and allowed six hits.
Nathan Chewning retired all three batters he faced in the seventh inning.
The pitchers were supported by an errorless defense.
The Hawks’ 11-hit attack was sparked by Carson Howard, who was 3-for-3. Noah Davison, who scored four runs, belted a double and a triple. Howard and Davison each stole two bases.
Ryan Cheatham knocked in four runs for the winners. Wyant had three RBI.
The Hawks (17-7) return to action, weather permitting, today at home against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.
Softball
Aliya Holloman had a hit for Heritage (8-14), which dropped a 10-0 decision on Wednesday at Toledo Cumberland.
Weather permitting, the Hawks will return to action today at home against Danville Schlarman Academy.
