Jake Frank BBQ serves up happiness
Oakwood, Ill. – Danville native Jake Frank has been doing one thing his whole life.
He’s been making people happy with the food he makes.
Frank, who has worked as a kitchen manager for the last decade decided to take the leap, purchase a food truck and starting his own business in June.
Now he’s serving his signature ribs, spare ribs, rib tips, pulled pork, polish sausage and chicken from Jake Frank’s BBQ in Oakwood, Danville, Georgetown and Catlin, among other places.
“I know there are a lot of options around here for barbeque,” Frank said. “Believe it or not, they’re all different in their own way.”
Frank said he hopes to also serve brisket soon. He’d also like to open a restaurant.
“I just want to make food that makes people happy,” he said.
Aside from working in the restaurant business his whole life, Frank was also the one preparing food for gatherings with family and friends.
With their support and help, Frank has enjoyed spending his weekends traveling around East Central Illinois to provide food at gatherings, fairs and festivals.
“We try to get to as many events as we can to get our name out there,” Frank said. “We go all over the place.”
Frank was serving food at Oakwood’s Color Run on Saturday, and has been at the Oakwood Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays throughout the summer.
With youth football season starting up, he said it will be difficult to get the Oakwood Farmer’s Market for the rest of the summer.
Frank said at this point, it’s best for people to check out their Facebook page for daily locations, but he also said they are behind the Big Four Tavern from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch on Wednesdays.
