Middle School Roundup: St. Joseph Softball win Clinton 3D Tournament, baseball undefeated

St. Joseph’s junior high softball team won all five games last weekend at the Clinton 3D Tournament and captured the team championship.
Coach Larry Sparks’ team had timely hitting from eighth-graders Chloe Harper, Addison Frick, Addy Martinie and Halle Brazelton as well as from seventh-graders Thea Smith and Chayse Palmer.
Madison Stevens and Frick shared the pitching duties.
The coach said that “we got great outfield catches from Sadie Erickson, Peyton Williams (eighth-graders) and Sarah Kearney (seventh-grader).”
The wins at Clinton were 4-2 vs. Mahomet-Seymour, 8-7 over Williamsville, 13-1 vs. Mount Pulaski, 5-4 over Maroa and 5-3 against Clinton.
St. Joseph is 9-2 overall.
Its other wins this season were against Paris, Fisher, Mahomet-Seymour and Hoopeston. The losses were to Unity and Monticello.
The team returns to action tonight (Wednesday) at home against Bismarck.
Prairieview Ogden baseball
The Mustangs are off to a 3-0 start to the season, including a walk-off win last week and a two-run triumph at home on Tuesday, 4-2, over Danville Schlarman Academy.
PVO snapped a 2-2 deadlock in the fourth inning against Schlarman on an RBI by Logan Lackey.
Caleb Ochs led the Mustangs’ attack, going 2-for-3.
PVO starting pitcher Parker Fitch allowed two hits in three innings, while striking out four.
Against Armstrong-Potomac, PVO secured an 8-7 triumph when Colin Wayland delivered a run-scoring triple.
The other PVO victory was over Rantoul Eater.
The Mustangs return to action today at Salt Fork.
St. Joseph baseball
St. Joseph improved its record to 5-0 on Monday with a 6-4 victory over Champaign Edison.
The team returns to action today at Mahomet-Seymour.
