Franzen leads 7th grade girls at Cowchip Classic, St. Joe, Heritage and Villa Grove results

St. Joseph Middle School’s Savanna Franzen beat all other seventh-grade girls on Saturday in a flighted race of the Chrisman Cowchip Cross-Country Classic.

Each class ran only against other students in the same grade.

Of the 71 seventh-grade girls, Franzen set the pace in the 2-mile race with a time of 13 minutes, 00.74 seconds.

In the same age division, teammate Madison Clampitt was 11th in 14:03.68.

In the 65-runner race for eighth-grade girls, St. Joseph’s Helene Jones was ninth in 13:47.33 and classmate Chloe Burkhalter was 15th in 14:19.46.

Among 82 participants in the sixth-grade race, St. Joseph’s Hannah Moch and Sophia Kasper were 29th and 32nd, respectively. Moch was timed in 16:26.88. Kasper’s time was 16:42.06.

Four athletes from the school were among the leaders in the fifth-grade race, led by runner-up Jaci Kellenberger in 14:56.56.

Other top finishers for the Panthers were Sophie Schmitz (10th in 16:49.39), Kiah Riesel (11th in 17:18.77) and Lily Ahart (15th in 18:42.58).

No team scores were kept.

St. Joseph Middle School Boys’ cross-country

St. Joseph had at least one top 10 runner in all four of the flighted races held Saturday as part of Chrisman’s Cowchip Classic.

In the 78-person race for eighth-graders, the Panthers’ Carson Maroon placed sixth. His 2-mile time was 11 minutes, 58.80 seconds.

In the same age division, classmate Spencer Wilson ran 13th in 12:36.57.

Of the 100 seventh-grade boys’ contestants, St. Joseph’s Kendrick Johnson claimed fourth place in 12:05.00.

Other team leaders were Holden Brazelton (eighth in 12:18.76) and Jack Fisher (17th in 13:02.12).

In the 73-runner race for sixth-grade boys, the Panthers’ Zach Harper was sixth in 12:46.63.

Teammates Lance Retz (16th in 13:35.67) and Quinn Stahl (19th in 14:21.33) also ended among the top 20.

The race for fifth-grade boys attracted 39 runners.

St. Joseph’s Finn Miller was fifth in 14:02.92. Jasper Marriott was 10th in 14:47.98.

Other leaders from the school were Tyler Hess (12th in 15:13.89) and Waylon Jones (14th in 15:42.40).

No teams scores were tabulated.

Heritage Junior High Boys’ cross-country

Zach Ruwe was the individual winner in the Chrisman Cowchip Classic run for eighth-graders last Saturday.

Ruwe’s 2-mile time was 11 minutes, 29.82 seconds.

There were 78 competitors in the eighth-grade race. Ruwe was victorious by 13.60 seconds.

The Chrisman event held separate races for each grade level.

In the 100-person run for seventh-grade boys, the Heritage leader was Hunter Montgomery (39th in 14:05.25).

In the 73-person run for sixth-grade boys, the Heritage leader was Anthony Happ (26th in 14:52.94).

Heritage Junior High Girls’ cross-country

Two Heritage runners placed among the top 15 in their respective races on Saturday at the Chrisman Cowchip Classic.

In the 2-mile race for eighth-grade girls, Lillian Montgomery was 12th with a time of 13:59.23. She was one of 65 competitors.

In the 82-person race for sixth-graders, Kiara Jones was the Heritage leader, finishing 12th in 15:07.76.

The seventh-grade race attracted 71 participants. Madi Wilson was 61st for Heritage in 18:58.04.

Villa Grove Boys’ cross-country

Two VG athletes recorded top 20 finishes in their respective age-group races at Saturday’s Chrisman Cowchip Classic.

In the 2-mile race for sixth-graders, Jackson Gilles placed 17th with a time of 14:00.98. There were 73 contestants.

In the 2-mile race for seventh-graders, Lukas Shadwick was 20th in 13:05.38. There were 100 runners.

In the eighth-grade race, Anthony Burnett was 77th in 18:24.41.

In the fifth-grade race, VG’s Owen Kneer was 36th in 19:30.59.

Villa Grove Girls’ cross-country

Two Blue Devils posted top 10 placements in Saturday’s Chrisman Cowchip Classic.

In the 82-person race for sixth-grade girls, Hayden Thomas ended in sixth place in 14:35.13.

In the 23-person race for fifth-graders, Evalice Callison placed seventh in 15:46.20.

Another VG runner, seventh-grader Maddie Wicklander, was 52nd in 17:33.47.

No team scores were tallied.
