St. Joseph (16-5) captured wins in its first two postseason softball games before falling to Westville 1-0 in Monday’s IESA regional title game at home.
“We played really well considering their pitcher was one of the best we played all season,” St. Joseph coach Larry Sparks said. “The girls never showed any quit and I’m proud of them for their effort.
“Madison Stevens pitched her best two games of the season in our last two outings.”
In Saturday’s regional semifinals, St. Joseph topped Hoopeston 11-2. Stevens earned the win.
“We got timely hitting/bunting from the entire lineup,” Sparks said.
To reach the semis, St. Joseph overpowered Rantoul 16-6 in a Thursday quarterfinal game.
Addy Martinie and Addison Frick were the offensive sparks. Sadie Erickson scored the run that created the 10-run rule on a wild throw from catcher to third base on a stolen base.
