Heritage and Villa Grove stumble, VGH CC finishes third

Visiting Okaw Valley handed Heritage its first loss in Lincoln Prairie Conference games on Tuesday, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20.

Heritage’s Olivia Sorensen distributed 30 assists.

Bri Struck pounded 17 kills and teammate Bree Buck added eight kills. Torie Rothermel served three aces and Buck landed two.

Anna Sanders had seven digs and Malani Smithenry finished with six digs.

Heritage (10-3) returns to action tonight at home against Cerro Gordo.

Villa Grove Volleyball

Jordyn Ray had seven digs and Reagan Cheely added four blocks for Villa Grove, which lost at home on Monday to Salt Fork, 25-23, 25-22.

On Tuesday, the Blue Devils (6-6) dropped a 25-15, 25-21 decision at home to Cerro Gordo (10-6).

Villa Grove/Heritage Boys’ cross-country

The Blue Devils finished third on Tuesday in a three-school meet at Tuscola’s Wimple Park.

The meet winner was Tuscola with 21 points, followed by Tri-County (50) and VG/H (64).

One VG/H runner placed among the top 10 individually.

Rowan Denmark-Collins was fourth with a 3-mile time of 19 minutes, 1 second.

The Blue Devils finished 13th in Saturday’s Paxton-Buckley-Loda Invitational. VG/H had a team score of 355 points.

Meet champion Clifton Central’s score was 51.

The VG/H leader was Denmark-Collins, who was 54th in 19:26.

He was followed by Olson Daniel (79th in 21:49), Kaleb Miller (85th in 23:25), Caleb Wiessing (87th in 23:54), Konner Pearman (91st in 24:54) and Fletcher Howard (94th in 25:33).

VG/H is back in action on Saturday, at the Tuscola Invitational.

Villa Grove/Heritage Girls’ cross-country

Four Villa Grove/Heritage runners nabbed top 10 finishes on Tuesday in a non-scored meet at Tuscola’s Wimple Park.

Kyleigh Price ran fourth with a 3-mile time of 25 minutes, 30 seconds.

Trailing her by less than a half-minute was Emma Buesing, who was seventh in 25:58.

Madison Logan ended in ninth place with a time of 29:20. Rounding out the top 10 was Kate Eisenmenger at 29:23.

Other schools entered in the meet were Tuscola and Tri-County.

In Saturday’s Paxton-Buckley-Loda Invitational, VGH placed 11th with a cumulative score of 265 points. Meet champion Unity had a score of 21.

Price and Buesing finished back-to-back in a field of 83 runners. Price was 53rd in 24:48 and Buesing was 54th in 24:56.

Other placers for the Blue Devils were Eisenmenger (66th in 27:17), Allison Kneer (73rd in 28:17), Logan (74th in 28:47), Regan Blanton (75th in 28:50) and Katie Fritz (78th in 29:57).

The VG/H runners return to Tuscola on Saturday for the Tuscola Invitational.
