Through the legs, behind the back and into the net.
They are tricks many young basketball players dream of being able to perform.
The Oakwood Grade School PTO wants to help young athletes dream big.
That’s why they are kicking off their 2019 OGS PTO basketball season by hosting the Harlem Wizards on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
“We are so excited the Wizards are coming to Oakwood,” PTO Rep. Ashley Goble said. “The idea came to us when we were brainstorming ways on how to raise the participation in our PTO Basketball.”
Each year the PTO sponsors basketball practices and games for any Oakwood Grade School student from January to March.
“We aren’t looking at this as a fundraiser for our school but something new and exciting that our students will enjoy,” Goble said.
General Admission tickets, reserved tickets and court-side plus tickets for the Nov. 4 game at Oakwood Grade school are now on sale.
“We have a limited amount of court-side plus tickets, but the perks are crazy,” Goble said. “All court-side plus ticket holders will need to arrive at 6 pm for a meet and greet with some of the Wizards.
“They will also get a VIP parking space as well as entry into VIP area where they can enjoy complimentary pizza and a beverage.”
“We want this to be a fun, family-friendly event,” Goble said. “We love being able to host events that will not only be exciting for our students but will also be something our entire community can enjoy.
An added bonus will be watching Oakwood teachers and community members take on the professionals.
“We are so excited to watch some of the kids favorite teachers and staff play against the Wizards,” Goble said.
All OGS students will get a chance to experience the Wizards at an assembly on Oct. 21.
“It will be promoting PTO basketball but the Wizards will also be talking about their awesome program called High Five for PRIDE. PRIDE standing for positivity, respect, integrity, determination, and empathy!
“All things that we as parents want our children to learn, and let’s be honest hearing it from a professional athlete is just an added bonus.”
The PTO continues to look for event sponsors to help cover the costs of the dynamic Wizards group. They also need volunteers for the Nov. 4 event.

“We hope we will be able to continue to bring positive role models like the Harlem Wizards to our school in the future.”
