Davis and Morris take top two, Oakwood Volleyball on win streak

Grace Davis and Allie Morris led a 1-2 finish for Oakwood in a four-school, non-scored girls’ cross-country meet on Tuesday at Chrisman.

The Comets were running against the host Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm team, Tri-County and Notre Dame La Salette.

Davis’ 3-mile time was 23 minutes, 28.61 seconds. Morris was next at 25:46.99.

Two other teammates were in the top five.

Katie Fritz was fourth (32:54.39) and Cassie Fugate was fifth (36:55.25).

The Comets return to action on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Oakwood Invitational at Kickapoo State Park.

Boys’ cross-country

Ethan Brewer placed 26th on Tuesday in a four-school meet at Chrisman.

Brewer’s 3-mile time was 23 minutes, 4.63 seconds.

Teammates Bryce Tucker placed 32nd (29:29.02) in the non-scored meet.

Oakwood was competing against the host Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm squad as well as Notre Dame La Salette and Tri-County.

Oakwood returns to action on Saturday in its own invitational at Kickapoo State Park.

Oakwood Volleyball

Three Comets handed out assists on Monday as Oakwood dealt Paxton-Buckley-Loda a 25-11, 25-15 setback.

Katelyn Young had five assists, Maria Adams had three assists and Karsen Rupp also had three assists.

Young collected six kills and two blocks. Aaliyah Denius had four kills and two aces.

On Tuesday, Oakwood extended its winning streak to five consecutive matches with a 25-21, 25-27, 25-12 victory at Armstrong-Potomac.

Young racked up a double-double with 17 assists and 13 kills. Denius reached double figures with 10 kills and Rupp distributed 14 assists.

Alyssa Romito swatted seven kills.

The Comets (12-9) return to action today at home against Milford. Seven of the Comets’ season wins have been in straight sets. Oakwood is unbeaten in six Vermilion Valley Conference matches.

Oakwood Golf

Medalist Logen Hoshauer helped the Comets get past Hoopeston Area 218-255 on Monday at Hubbard Trail.

Hoshauer posted a 48.

Joining Hoshauer as the team’s scorers for the meet were Travis Goodner (53), Reed Sperry (56) and Joie Sollers (61).

Oakwood returns to action today at Harrison Park in the Vermilion Valley Conference meet.

Oakwood Soccer

The Comets dropped to the .500 mark (3-3) in Vermilion Valley Conference matches with a narrow 2-1 loss on Tuesday at Hoopeston Area.

Brady Tevebaugh scored the lone Oakwood/Salt Fork goal, with an assist from Colin Merritt. That score lifted the Comets into a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Goalkeeper Aaron Dean registered 13 saves.

Oakwood/SF (5-10-1 overall) returns to action today at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.
