The football battle between Vermilion Valley Conference unbeatens went to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.

The Blue Devils (6-1 overall and 4-0 in the VVC) overpowered Oakwood 35-6 Friday night in Fithian.

The lone score for the Comets came on a 52-yard run by Gaven Clouse in the second quarter.

Clouse is tied for the team-lead in touchdowns with Jack Carey, at nine apiece.

Couse was Oakwood’s top ground-gainer, rushing for 152 yards on 19 carries. Blaine McCord led the Comets’ defense with 10 tackles.

“We had a few moments where we started to gain some momentum,” Oakwood coach Al Craig said. “We just couldn’t capitalize.

“Credit to Bismarck’s defense for shutting the door on us in those moments. We are hoping to come back ready to go against Westville.”

Oakwood (5-2) plays its regular-season home finale on Friday against Westville (3-4).
