It’s a small gift that means a lot.

The Oakwood High School student council hosted its annual Senior Citizen’s Dinner Dec. 5.

Attracting senior citizens from Oakwood-area communities, students greet guests at the door and hand out raffle tickets for door prizes.

Student council sponsor Teresa Cooper said that in the days leading up to the event, students put a lot of time into deciding how to decorate for the dinner. The Oakwood chorus came to provide entertainment.

“They take a lot of pride in making the area look nice for our guests,” she said.

The effort does not go unnoticed.

“I think it is important to have events like this because it helps the students be involved in the community,” she said. “It is also a nice opportunity for the seniors to come back to the building, which many of them graduated from.”

Students also enjoy getting to meet new people from the community, and being able to serve them.

“It’s a great way to bring everyone together,” Cooper said.
