Strong defense leads Oakwood Girls’ Basketball over Hoopeston Area

For the sixth time this season, the Comets held an opponent to fewer than 20 points in a game.
Oakwood’s 26-16 win on Monday was at Hoopeston Area.
The Comets kept the Cornjerkers scoreless in the first period, but were only ahead 11-10 at halftime.
Katelyn Young made six of her team-high 12 points in the third quarter as Oakwood moved into a 22-13 lead.
Hoopeston managed just two field goals in the second half.
Karsen Rupp scored six points and Ashlynn Pinnick made four for the Comets.
Oakwood (16-5) returns to action tonight at Salt Fork. Oakwood is 6-2 in Vermilion Valley Conference games.
