Illinois COVID-19Local

Champaign-Urbana Public Health Briefing March 25, 2020

Champaign, Ill.— Under the leadership of the Champaign County Emergency Operations Center (EOC),
area healthcare organizations will be providing weekday media briefings.
The number of persons diagnosed with COVID-19 in Illinois continues to rise. As of today, there are eight
confirmed cases in Champaign County.
Because community transmission is occurring in multiple locations throughout the state, we all should
consider ourselves at risk for exposure to COVID-19. That means that everyone should stay home as
much as possible and self-monitor for symptoms. Self-monitoring means checking yourself daily for
fever, cough, shortness of breath or a sore throat. Health officials do not indicate testing for mildly ill or
asymptomatic people.
PPE supply status
To be clear, area healthcare facilities currently have sufficient supply of surgical masks and other
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and continue to follow CDC guidance for the safety of patients and
staff to help conserve them. But we are proactively seeking donations to ensure we continue to have
the proper equipment to keep staff and patients safe.
Community donations
The community can help by donating personal protective equipment (PPE) to a community-wide
collection effort. The priority need is boxed and unused procedural N-95 and surgical masks. We also
need face shields, goggles, gowns, ventilators and hand sanitizer to distribute to first responders and
healthcare workers throughout the community.
You can drop off any of these items Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at:
Champaign Urbana Public Health Department (North conference room door)
201 W. Kenyon Rd.
Champaign, IL
Call 239-7877 when you arrive. Please include your name and address with your donation.

How can the community help?
There are many ways the community can help to address COVID 19. Stay home, give blood, make a
donation and consider making masks for non-clinicians who wish to wear them following online
