St. Joseph-Ogden Senior Spotlight: Nate Marshky, Jarrett Stevenson, Braydon Rupert and Josh Sextonand
Nate Marshky
Coffee Club, STEP Program
Nate lives in St. Joseph with his family. He has two younger brothers. His hobbies include walking his dog and cat, and he enjoys going to the Disc Replay store in Champaign. Nate has a lot of great memories at SJO. Over the years, he has really enjoyed making coffee every Thursday for the SJO staff with other students in Mrs. Beckett’s class. Nate has enjoyed many field trips over the years, especially going to the pumpkin patch and Apple Dumplin. He has enjoyed dressing up for Halloween at school, and he remembers the gas leak during his sophomore year when he got out of class for a while. After high school, Nate is excited to find a job, and he wants to learn how to box. His advice for future SJO students is to work hard. He thinks the harder you try, the better off you will be. His favorite classes at SJO were all of his science classes. His favorite teachers throughout his years of K-12 schooling include Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Ward, Mrs. James, Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. McCoy, Mr. Risley, Mrs. Mabry, Mrs. Bayles, Mrs. Beckett, and Mr. Vetter. Congrats to Nate on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future.
Jarrett Stevenson
Football (4 years), Baseball (1 year), Track and Field (1 year)
Jarrett lives with his family in St. Joseph. He has three older sisters. His hobbies include going to church and practicing computer coding. His greatest memories at SJO revolve around the football team. He enjoyed playing in the IHSA Football Playoffs the past two years. Towards the end of Jarrett’s junior year, he became the starting running back for the SJO football team, which was inspiring for Jarrett. The feeling of brotherhood was incredible for Jarrett, and he will always remember these great moments. After high school, Jarrett is planning on attending the College of DuPage to obtain a culinary arts degree. He wants to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business administration at a four-year university as well. His advice for future SJO students is to not take anything for granted because high school goes by so quickly. His favorite classes at SJO were Spanish III with Mr. Sutton and Trigonometry with Mrs. Rash. These classes were a great help for Jarrett and were very enjoyable. His favorite teachers throughout his years of schooling include his mom (K-8), Mr. Stephenson, Senor Sutton, and Mrs. Rash.
Braydon Rupert
Basketball (4 years), Maroon Platoon
Braydon lives in St. Joseph with his family. He has three older sisters. His hobbies include watching movies, listening to music, and hanging out with friends and family. His greatest memories at SJO stem from playing basketball all four years. Braydon enjoyed being a part of the basketball team, as it was a great family of players. After high school, Braydon plans to attend Parkland College to study construction management. His advice for future SJO students is to be prepared and to work hard. His favorite classes at SJO were Intro to Ag with Mrs. Duitsman and Algebra II with Mr. Duval. Throughout his years of schooling, Braydon’s favorite teachers include Mr. Duval, Mr. Simondsen, and Mrs. Kietzman at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Braydon on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future.
Josh Sexton
Cross Country (4 years), Track & Field (2 years), Band, Chorus, Drama Club, Spanish Club, NHS
Josh lives in St. Joseph with his family. He has one younger sister. His hobbies include anything related to theater. Josh has many great memories of SJO. He has really enjoyed being a part of the SJO cross country team. This past winter, Josh was a part of the All State Musical at Illinois State University, which is an event he will never forget. Also, Josh really enjoyed attending the district band competition at Olivet Nazarene University. He will also remember everything that was theater-related at SJO as well. After high school, Josh plans to attend Illinois State University to major in music education. His plan is to go to the University of Illinois after ISU to get a master’s degree. He wants to be a performer someday on Broadway. Josh is also very proud of signing up the SJO theater shows for the Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards. He helped get this started as a student at SJO. His advice for future SJO students is to not underestimate yourself. Band and Civics were Josh’s favorite classes at SJO. Throughout his K-12 years, his favorite teachers have been Mr. Dassow and Mrs. Ford at St. Joseph Middle School, and Mr. Williams, Mrs. Lindenmeyer, and Mr. Schacht at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.
