St. Joseph-Ogden Senior Spotlight: Erica Guelfi, Alivia Norem, Lucas Grindley and Keegan McCarty

Erica Guelfi

Scholastic Bowl (4 years), Drama Club, Spanish Club, NHS, Band, Rube Goldberg Team, We The People,Student Council-Class Officer & Executive Officer

Erica lives in St. Joseph with her family. She has one younger brother. Her hobbies include baking, reading, and playing her trumpet. Erica’s greatest memories at SJO revolve around all of the extra-curricular activities she is a part of. She has really enjoyed band all four years of high school, and she will always remember the musical All Shook Up during her junior year. After high school, Erica is headed to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Vanderbilt University and to study biomedical engineering. Her advice for future SJO students is to follow your interests and passions and to be involved in what you feel passionate about. Her favorite classes at SJO were Biology, World History, and Physics. Throughout her years of schooling, her favorite teachers include Mrs. Parrish at St. Joseph Grade School; Mrs. Ford at St. Joseph Middle School; and Mr. Kieffer, Mr. Searby, and Mr. Schacht at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Erica on all of her accomplishments and best of luck to her in the future.

Alivia Norem

Maroon Platoon

Alivia lives in St. Joseph with her family. She has one older brother. Her hobbies include playing volleyball, traveling, spending time with close friends, and driving. Alivia’s greatest memories at SJO include all of the classes she had with her best friend, Anna. She also enjoyed her Advanced Biology class during her junior year. She met so many people in the class and she will never forget the overall environment of the class. After high school, Alivia will be attending Parkland College to study business with an emphasis on finance. Her goal is to become a financial advisor someday. Her advice for future SJO students is to choose empathy and to try to understand everyone before you speak. Her favorite classes at SJO were Advanced Biology, all of her Science classes, and all of her English classes, especially English 101/102. Throughout her years of schooling, Alivia’s favorite teachers include Mr. Schacht, Mrs. Kietzman, and Mr. Searby at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Alivia on all of her accomplishments and best of luck to her in the future.

Lucas Grindley

Band (4 years), NHS, We The People, Scholastic Bowl, Drama Club

Lucas lives in St. Joseph with his family. He has two younger brothers. His hobbies include playing the trombone and working at the St. Joseph IGA. Lucas has a lot of positive memories of SJO. He enjoyed the SJO musical last year during his junior year. Also, during his senior year, he enjoyed being a part of the boys’ dance team and the man squad. After high school, Lucas is headed to Eastern Illinois University to major in journalism and to minor in biology. His advice for future SJO students is to focus on your work because everything will all work out. His favorite classes at SJO were U.S. History, Civics, Economics, Spanish, and Band. Throughout his years of schooling, Lucas’s favorite teachers include Mrs. Camp at St. Joseph Grade School, Mr. Risley at St. Joseph Middle School, and Senor Sutton and Mr. Schacht at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Lucas on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future.

Keegan McCarty

Baseball (4 years), Football (1 year)

Keegan lives in St. Joseph with his family. His hobbies include deer hunting, running, and working out. His greatest memories at SJO were all of the Homecoming assemblies each year and all of the baseball overnight trips over the years. After high school, Keegan plans to attend Lakeland College to major in accounting and play baseball. His advice for future SJO students is to study for all of their tests and to not wait to do their work. His favorite classes at SJO were both Accounting I and Accounting II with Mrs. Harbaugh and Civics with Mr. Beckett. Throughout his years of schooling, Keegan’s favorite teachers include Mrs. Izard at PVO; Mr. Risley at St. Joseph Middle School; and Mrs. Harbaugh, Mr. Schacht, and Mr. Kieffer at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Keegan on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future.
