Construction on overpass bridge in St. Joseph to begin May 5

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that construction on two bridges over Interstate 74 in Champaign County begins May 3.
During the nights of May 3 and May 4, crews will install a protective shield on the bridge that carries High Cross Road over I-74 at Urbana, which will require a lane closure on I-74. The work involves structural repairs and a latex concrete overlay, which begins May 7 and will close the bridge for about a month. A detour utilizing U.S. 150, Cottonwood Road and Anthony Drive will be posted.
The second bridge is at the St. Joseph interchange (exit 192), where crews will install a protective shield on the bridge that carries County Road 12 over I-74 during the nights of May 5 and May 6, which will close a lane of I-74. Structural repairs and a latex concrete overlay will begin May 6, which will reduce the bridge to one lane with traffic controlled by temporary signals.
All construction is expected to be complete in eight to 12 weeks, weather permitting.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
