Oakwood baseball begins season with three big wins

The Knights have outscored their first three opponents by a collective 52-7 score with three different pitchers earning victories.

The latest win was a 25-1 three-inning triumph over Heritage in Homer on Monday.

Loudyn Hughes pitched all three innings for Oakwood, allowing two hits while striking out five.

He was backed by a 22-hit offensive attack.

Adam Watson collected five hits and drove in three runs.

Hughes and Brandt Hobick each ended with four hits. Hughes had five RBI. Hobick knocked in two runs.

On Thursday (Aug. 20), Oakwood topped visiting Bismarck-Henning 11-4.

Winning pitcher Bryson Marcinko pitched five innings and fanned six batters. He also drove in two runs.

Watson struck out three in his stint on the mound.

Hobick (three hits and two RBI) and Jackson Dudley (two hits and three RBI) were other offensive catalysts.

In the team’s opener (Monday, Aug. 17), the Knights handled Westville 16-1.

Dudley earned the win, striking out four in two innings. Marcinko also pitched two innings and fanned five.

Watson had a three-hit, six-RBI day. Marcinko and Chase Harrison each landed two hits. Harrison and Dudley each drove in two runs.

Oakwood (3-0) returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 27) against Schlarman Academy in Danville.
