The Blue Devils took ninth in their season-opening meet on Saturday, the Saber Corn Classic at St. Thomas More.
Lilli Montgomery led all VG/H runners, finishing the 3-mile course in 22 minutes, 3.9 seconds. She placed 22nd.
The team’s other participants were Hailey Stutz (51st in 26:26.8), Emma Buesing (57th in 27:11.1), Madison Logan (59th in 27:36.6) and Kyleigh Rice (61st in 28:02.8).
“Our girls’ squad shows some great potential, and I expect them to improve dramatically as they settle into racing form,” Kestner said.
Montgomery is a freshman who was making her high school debut. Stutz is a junior, but Kestner said, her performance was “impressive since she hasn’t run cross-country since junior high.”
VG/H returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 5) in the Chrisman Cowchip Classic.
