Savannah Franzen and Mason Guido finish first at Mahomet-Seymour meet

St. Joseph produced the individual winners on Monday in girls’ and boys’ junior high school cross-country races at Mahomet’s 13 Acres Park.

The girls’ meet champion was Savanna Franzen. She ran the 2-mile course in 12 minutes, 46 seconds and held a 63-second margin over the runner-up.

Madison Clampitt was the school’s only other top 10 finisher in the dual meet with the host Bulldogs. She placed ninth in 14:49.

Jaci Kellenberger was 11th in 14:53. Sophie Schmitz was 19th in 16:11.

The other St. Joseph participants were Sydney Steinbach (21st in 16:20), Averie Dietker (22nd in 16:25), Lyla Patton (23rd in 16:33), Hannah Mock (27th in 17:22), Kylie Barrowman (28th in 17:37) and Kiah Reisel (29th in 17:38).

In the team chase, M-S defeated the St. Joseph girls 20-61.

St. Joseph’s Mason Guido dominated the boys’ race, posting a winning time of 12 minutes, 7 seconds. He held a 24-second margin of victory.

Four of his teammates secured top 10 placements.

Lance Retz was fifth (12:45), Jack Fisher was sixth (12:56), Finn Miller was ninth (13:13) and Kyler Swanson was 10th (13:21).

In the boys’ team race, M-S held a narrow 24-31 victory.

Other competitors for St. Joseph were Carson Sarnicki (11th in 13:23), Joe Grelbot (13th in 13:31), Charlie Schmitz (15th in 13:34), Collin Burnett (16th in 13:51) and Zach Harper (17th in 13:59).
