Oakwood girls’ cross country places 14th at Cowchip Classic

Three sophomores and a freshman were the top placers for the Comets, who placed 14th in the 15-school Chrisman Cowchip Classic on Saturday (Sept. 5).
Sophomore Allie Morris ran 17th overall, completing the 3-mile course in 21 minutes, 12.4 seconds.
Freshman Yelka Layden was the team’s next finisher, ending in 80th with a time of 26:36.5.
The Comets’ other participants were sophomore Kalie Tison (85th in 26:52.4); sophomore Cassie Fugate (96th in 27:40.0) and senior Aaliyah Denius (103rd in 29:38.2).
Team honors were captured by Monticello with 29 points. Runner-up Marshall ended with 52 points and Urbana Uni High was third with 86 points. Oakwood/SF had an overall score of 327.
The Comets return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 8) at St. Joseph in a meet that not only includes the host Spartans, but also Armstrong-Potomac.
