Heritage Baseball gets win over Rossville-Alvin

Destin Nickle and Robert Holloman led the offensive attack on Thursday (Sept. 3) as Heritage snapped a six-game losing streak and edged Rossville-Alvin 9-8 at Homer.

Nickle and Holloman each belted three hits. Nickle’s hits were two doubles and a triple. He drove in two runs, stole two bases and scored three runs.

Holloman’s hits included a triple along with two singles. He scored two runs.

Winning pitcher Anthony Happ was 1-for-1, but also reached base three other times on walks. He scored a run and stole a base.

On the mound, Happ worked five innings and yielded three hits. He allowed six runs, but none were earned. He walked three and struck out eight.

Heritage gave him a 7-1 lead after two innings.

Rylan White, who knocked in two runs, pitched the final two innings. He allowed two hits, two runs (none earned) and struck out four while walking no one.

Rossville-Alvin scored twice in the top of the seventh inning before White shut the door.

Dillon Bear had two hits and two RBI. Kamble Pearman had one hit, one run and one RBI. Brennan Struck scored a run and Jack Ballard had a run and an RBI.

On Tuesday (Sept. 8), Westville handed visiting Heritage a 7-2 loss.

White had a double and Holloman had a single to account for the team’s two hits. Ballard, who stole a base, scored a run as did Pearman.

James Dillon drew two walks.

Holloman struck out five batters in his five-inning stint. White pitched one scoreless inning of relief, fanning one batter.

Heritage (1-7) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 10) at Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
