Brandon Mattsey and Carson Maroon lead all runners in meet at St. Joseph

Senior Brandon Mattsey and freshman Carson Maroon ran first and second, respectively, for the Spartans on Tuesday (Sept. 8) in a four-school meet at St.  Joseph.

Competing at a 1.5-mile distance, Mattsey was timed in 8 minutes and 9 seconds, Maroon finished in 8:12.

Five other Spartans placed among the top 10 individually in a race featuring 39 runners.

Elijah Mock was fifth in 8:23, Luke Stegall was sixth in 8:26, Charlie Mabry was seventh in 8:28, Logan Wolfersberger was eighth in 8:43 and Spencer Wilson was ninth in 8:45.

SJ-O totaled 21 points and won the meet. Runner-up Tuscola had a score of 40 and was followed by Oakwood (85) and Armstrong-Potomac (110).

SJ-O returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 15) at Monticello.
