Heritage’s Hunter Montgomery wins Heritage Invitational

Eighth-grader Hunter Montgomery secured first- and second-place finishes in two recent meets.

On Tuesday (Sept. 8), Montgomery was the winner in the Heritage Invitational, at Homer. His 2-mile time was 13 minutes, 30.9 seconds. His victory margin was 25 seconds.

Other team leaders were Christian Paul (fourth in 14:11.4), Clark Roland (ninth in 16:47.8), Eli Denmark-Collins (15th in 19:26.6) and Atticus Ashbrook (18th in 23:22.2). Paul and Ashbrook are both fifth-graders.

Heritage ended third in the team chase. Bismarck-Henning and Salt Fork tied for first place with 39 points, followed by Heritage (47).

On Thursday (Sept. 10), Heritage placed second in a three-team meet at Paxton.

Champaign Holy Cross (22) earned team honors, followed by Heritage (51) and host PBL (63).

Each Heritage runner improved his time from two days earlier.

Montgomery was the individual runner-up. He was timed in 12:46 for the 2-mile course. Paul placed fourth (13:24) and was followed by Roland (14th in 15:49), Denmark-Collins (19th in 17:53) and Ashbrook (20th in 22:48).

Heritage returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 17) at Rossville-Alvin.
