Oakwood Knights winning streak snapped, named No. 1 seed in Class 2A Regional

The Knights had their season-long winning streak snapped at seven games on Thursday (Sept. 10), giving up two runs in the opening inning at Hoopeston Area and suffering a 2-0 loss to the Cornjerkers.
Two of Oakwood’s three hits were registered by Bryson Marcinko. Chase Harrison had the team’s other hit.
Teammates who reached by walks were Brandt Hobick, Loudyn Hughes and Cooper Hutson.
The hard-luck loser was Jackson Dudley, who fired a two-hitter and struck out five in his six-inning outing.
The Knights wasted no time in returning to their winning ways, topping Georgetown-Ridge Farm Mary Miller 13-1 in a five-inning game on Monday (Sept. 14).
Marcinko pitched a two-hitter in posting his fourth win and Dudley led the offense by driving in four runs. After allowing a run in the first inning, Marcinko fired four consecutive scoreless innings.
Oakwood hammered 13 hits, including three by Hobick. Dudley and Hughes each finished with two hits. Marcinko delivered two RBI.
The Knights expanded a 3-1 lead with a nine-run fourth inning.
Oakwood (8-1) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 17) in its regular-season home-finale against Armstrong-Potomac.
Oakwood has achieved the No. 1 seed for a five-school Class 2A regional which will start on Monday (Sept. 21). Oakwood will face a semifinal game at home on Tuesday (Sept. 22) against the winner between fourth-seeded Iroquois West and fifth-seeded Watseka. They play on the 21st.
If Oakwood advances to the championship game, it will be the host for the Saturday (Sept. 26) game.
