St. Joseph, which won five of its first nine games, earned the No. 2 seed in a five-team Class 2A regional which will start on Monday (Sept. 21). St. Joseph’s postseason opener will be in the semifinals at home on Thursday (Sept. 24) against Hoopeston Area.
That winner will move into the regional finals on Saturday (Sept. 26). The game would be played in Westville if top-seeded Westville wins in the semifinals.
“We have a relatively young and inexperienced team,” St. Joseph coach Larry Sparks said. “All of our pitching and catching are handled by seventh-graders.
“As in most seasons, girls get put into positions they don’t normally play due to eighth-graders already having their spot.”
