The Spartans’ top seven runners finished in a pack within 47 seconds of one another on Tuesday (Sept. 15), but dropped a close decision to Monticello at Lodge Park.
SJ-O had five top 10 placers, led by Spencer Wilson, whose 3-mile time was 17 minutes and 53 seconds. Wilson took fourth.
He was followed across the finish line by teammates Ethan Blackburn (fifth in 18:01), Lukas Hutcherson (seventh in 18:22), Isiah Mock (eighth in 18:32) and Carson Maroon (ninth in 18:33).
Not far off the pace were SJ-O’s next two participants: Charlie Mabry (11th in 18:40) and Aiden Armstrong (12th, also in 18:40).
Monticello secured a 22-33 team win.
SJ-O returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 26) in the annual Spartan Classic, which will be held at the St. Joseph Community Park.
