Led by runaway winner Savanna Franzen, St. Joseph outdistanced the field on Friday (Sept.25) in a three-school girls’ cross-country meet at home.

Franzen won the 2-mile race in 13 minutes, 11.5 seconds and was 1 minute and 46 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

The Panthers captured eight of the first nine places en route to a team victory over runner-up Paxton-Buckley-Loda and third-place Urbana Uni High.

The next seven St. Joseph runners who followed Franzen across the finish line completed the course within a minute of each other.

Other team leaders were: Jaci Kellenberger (second in 14:57.8), Lyla Patton (third in 15:02.2), Faith King (fifth in 15:27.1), Ava Alexander (sixth in 15:27.6), Sydney Steinbach (seventh in 15:47.1), Ava Gallo (eighth in 15:50.9) and Sophie Schmidtz (ninth in 15:57.2).

The Panthers return to action on Monday (Oct. 5) at Mahomet-Seymour’s 13 Acres Park in a meet that also includes Mount Zion.
