The Comets placed fifth in the nine-school Danville Schlarman Class 1A regional boys’ golf tournament on Tuesday (Oct. 6) at Harrison Park.
Oakwood had three top-20 placers in a field of 58 competitors.
Senior Reed Sperry fired a 90 and ended in a tie for seventh individually. He was two shots away from advancing to the sectional.
Senior Travis Goodner and sophomore Kyle McFarland each carded 100s and tied for 19th.
The Comets’ other participants were Case Kopacz (110), Mason Goodner (116) and Seth Halls (149).
Regional champion Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin (377) and runner-up Champaign St. Thomas More (378) qualified their full teams for the Tuscola Sectional on Tuesday (Oct. 13).
The top four individuals not on those teams also advanced. It took an 88 to make the cut.
