Brandon Mattsey places fourth at Illini Prairie Conference meet

The Spartans had three top-10 runners in the Saturday (Oct. 10) Illini Prairie Conference boys’ cross-country meet at the St. Joseph Community Park.
Senior Brandon Mattsey placed fourth overall among 65 competitors with a 3-mile time of 16 minutes, 7.43 seconds.
Two teammates finished less than 18 seconds behind him. Junior Charlie Mabry ended eighth (16:22.22) and freshman Carson Maroon was ninth (16:25.25).
The other SJ-O participants were: Elijah Mock (19th in 17:08.02), Luke Stegall (20th in 17:08.73), Logan Wolfersberger (22nd in 17:16.19) and Spencer Wilson (44th in 18:23.18).
Stanford Olympia captured team honors with a composite score of 39. Runner-up Monticello ended with 44 points, third-place SJ-O totaled 60 points and fourth-place Tolono Unity ended with 96 points. Nine schools entered full teams.
The top four teams at the IPC meet are all ranked among the state’s top 20 in Class 1A by milesplit.com.
Olympia is the top-ranked team. Monticello is ranked sixth, SJ-O is ranked 10th and Tolono Unity is ranked 16th.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday (Oct. 17) at Monticello.
