Panthers capture IESA Class 2A sectional championship

The St. Joseph Panthers earned an IESA Class 2A sectional championship on Saturday (Oct. 10) in a boys’ cross-country postseason meet they hosted at the St. Joseph Community Park.
St. Joseph had a final composite score of 28 points. Runner-up Tolono Unity had 50 points and was followed by Paxton-Buckley-Loda (76) and Monticello (79).
Five Panthers secured top-10 finishes in a meet with 34 competitors.
Eighth-grader Jack Fisher was second with a 2-mile time of 12 minutes, 9.5 seconds.
Following him were eighth-grader Mason Guido (third in 12:24.0), seventh-grader Lance Retz (sixth in 12:44.3), eighth-grader Joe Griebat (eighth in 12:46.8) and Kyler Swanson (ninth in 12:49.18).
The other St. Joseph competitors in the season-ending meet were sixth-grader Colin Burnett (17th in 13:03.6) and eighth-grader Carson Sarnecki (20th in 13:24.8).
