Young VG/H girls’ cross country team finishes season on positive note

With a lineup featuring three sophomores, one freshman and one junior, Villa Grove/Heritage placed 11th on Saturday (Oct. 24) in the 13-team Class 1A Decatur girls’ cross-country regional at Hickory Point Golf Course.

Leading the way for the Blue Devils was sophomore Emma Buesing (43rd in 21 minutes, 47.9 seconds).

Trailing her were freshman Lilli Montgomery (47th in 22:20.3), sophomore Kyleigh Price (61st in 24:10.3), junior Hailey Stutz (68th in 25:07.7) and sophomore Madison Logan (70th in 25:37.9).

VG/Heritage finished with a team score of 281 points.

Four of the top five teams in the regional were state-ranked, according to milesplit.com, including team titlist Tolono Unity (40 points) and runner-up Monticello (51 points), who were rated fourth and first, respectively.

The regional meet was the final competition of the season for VG/Heritage.
