Savanna Franzen competes at ShaZam Racing meet to finish season
By Fred Kroner
Eighth-grader Savanna Franzen was the lone student from St. Joseph Middle School to compete in Sunday’s unofficial girls’ junior high cross-country state meet, sponsored by ShaZam Racing, at Chillicothe.
In the invitation-only meet, Franzen traversed the 2-mile course in 13 minutes, 15.11 seconds. She placed 56th in a meet which attracted 164 runners.
Since it was not a sanctioned IESA meet, Franzen couldn’t run representing St. Joseph Middle School. She was competing as part of SJPXC and was not coached by any of her school coaches.
Unlike the IESA season, when there were meets for Class 1A, 2A and 3A runners, in the ShaZam meet, all three classes ran together.
