St. Joseph Caucus for Board seats on Dec. 7
St. Joseph will hold a Republican and Democrat Caucus on Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Both caucuses will nominate candidates for the seats of mayor and three trustees on the Village of St. Joseph board of trustees.
The Democratic Party will hold their caucus at the St. Joseph Annex Building, located at 201 N. Second Street.
The Republican Party will hold their caucus at the St. Joseph Township Building, located at 400 W. Sherman Street.
In municipalities with under 5,000 residents, established political parties are allowed to nominate candidates to fill seats on the board.
In 2018, 41 people at the Republican caucus who would be placed on the ballot for four trustee positions. No one attended the Democratic caucus.
Only those registered voters who reside within the territory for which the nomination is made shall be permitted to vote or take part in the caucus proceedings. No voter shall vote or take part in the proceedings of more than one caucus or meeting to make a nomination for the same municipality.
The caucus may make one nomination for each office to be filled at the consolidated election.
A candidate who participated at a caucus and who is defeated at the caucus for nomination is ineligible to be listed as a candidate of another political party, an independent candidate, or to file a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate at the consolidated election.
Independent candidates can run in the consolidated election by filing nomination papers with the office of the appropriate local election official or board of election commissioners during the filing period, December 14-21.
