Block and Wright lead Blue Devils in win over Okaw Valley

Kyleigh Block and Vanessa Wright led Villa Grove/Heritage to its first girls’ basketball win of the season on Wednesday in the team’s home-opener.
Block and Wright each nailed 10 first-half points to send the Blue Devils to a lead they never lost en route to a 51-33 conquest of Okaw Valley.
Block fired in a game-high 29 points, including six three-point baskets. Wright became the third VG/Heritage player to reach double figures this season, tossing in 14 points.
Maci Clodfelder hit six points and Hailey Stutz scored two points.
VG/Heritage was without Madie Burwell, who averaged 10 points in her first two games. She was sidelined with an injury.
On Monday, Block led the team in scoring for the second game in a row, but Villa Grove/Heritage’s girls’ basketball team suffered its second consecutive road loss.
Sullivan jumped out to a 13-5 first-quarter lead and limited the Blue Devils to seven first-half points in a 44-21 decision. VG/Heritage shot 16 percent from the field.
Block scored nine points and hit two three-point shots. Burwell scored six points.
All of Wright’s points came on a three-pointer. Arbuckle, Stutz and Malani Smithenry each hit a free throw.
VG/Heritage (1-2) returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 4) at St. Joseph-Ogden.
