The Spartans’ first two games – both at home – were postponed due to COVID-19 protocol.
SJ-O was scheduled to play its opener on Friday (Feb. 5) against Cissna Park before opening Illini Prairie Conference play at home on Tuesday (Feb. 9) against St. Thomas More.
The Cissna Park game will not be rescheduled, but the St. Thomas More contest has been worked into the final week of the season, on Wednesday, March 10. If all goes well, SJ-O will play five games in the last eight days of the season (between March 5-12).
The Spartans will return to practice next week.
“It is frustrating, but also something we knew we were signing up for,” SJ-O head coach Kiel Duval said. “There was always this possibility, especially when we want to keep everyone involved safe.”
SJ-O is now scheduled to play its first game on Friday (Feb. 12) at Rantoul.
“We are looking forward to watching our kids play,” SJ-O athletic director Justin Franzen said.
