Comets bounce back with win over Hoopeston

As it has done after a previous loss, the Oakwood boys’ basketball team bounced back with a win in its next game.
The Comets downed visiting Hoopeston Area, 56-27, on Friday (Feb. 26), led by a season-high 23 points from Dalton Hobick.
The Oakwood lead was 13-7 after one quarter, but Hobick scored seven second-quarter points and the Comets limited the Cornjerkers (1-8) to one basket in the second period as the lead ballooned to 29-10 at halftime.
Josh Young made 13 points and Isaiah Ruch added 11 points. Gavin Clouse contributed seven points.
Hobick finished with a nine-point fourth quarter.
On Saturday (Feb. 27), Oakwood maintained its unbeaten record at home this season, dispatching Salt Fork 58-38. Oakwood is 4-0 at home.
The teams were tied, 17-17, after one quarter, but the Comets held Salt Fork to one basket in each the second and third quarters and built a 45-27 lead entering the final eight minutes against an opponent with a 6-2 season record.
Young made seven of his team-high 17 points in the second stanza. For the game, he hit 9 of 9 free throws, giving him 11 consecutive free throw conversions for the weekend.
Brevin Wells chipped in with 14 points and Ruch hit 12, including two three-point shots. Hobick had seven points.
Wells and Grant Powell also sunk two three-point shots. Hobick made one trey.
Oakwood (6-2) returns to action on Tuesday (March 2) at Chrisman.
