Unbeaten Salt Fork proves to be too much for Oakwood

Hoopeston Area halted the Oakwood girls’ basketball two-game winning streak on Thursday (Feb. 25) with a 54-30 Vermilion Valley Conference win at home.
The Comets trailed the Cornjerkers (5-4), 20-8, after one quarter before enduring a scoreless second quarter.
Karsen Rupp, who made both of her free throw attempts, led Oakwood with six points. Aaliyah Denius added five points.
Denius and Kalie Tison each made three-point shots for Oakwood.
On Saturday (Feb. 27) unbeaten and state-ranked Salt Fork (No 8 in Class 1A) dealt Oakwood a 54-38 setback.
Addie Wright scored nine of her team-high 24 points in the opening quarter as the Comets moved into a 12-9 advantage. Wright’s scoring outburst was the single-game high this season for Oakwood.
Tiffany Paris scored five points for Oakwood, and hit her team’s only three-pointer.
Salt Fork is 9-0.
The Comets (2-5) start a two-game homestand on Monday (March 1) with a VVC game against Chrisman (2-5).
